Marupai
This marupai from the Elema People of the eastern Papuan Gulf has a mask-like design carved on the front surface of the dwarf coconut and an overall design on the rest of its surface. Marupai are used in magic for protection and to insure wealth. When it is viewed from the side it takes on the appearance of an animal with a snout and a partially open mouth. The lime rubbed into its surface helps to highlight the design.
It measures 2 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches long and comes with a custom base. $1650
