Carved Cassowary Bone: detail

This very aged Cassowary bone spatula is from the Abelam area in New Guinea. It is incised on the front surface with typical designs which are similar to the masks and carvings. There are perforations at the top for the attachment of ornaments, possible feathers. It shows wear and has some patina. I collected it in New Guinea in 1969. It measures 12" high by 1" wide and comes with a custom stand. It sells for $1200.00 [back]
